Eligibility Criteria

This program is specifically tailored to meet the needs of our local military community. Applicants must meet the following criteria, which will be verified during our application process:

Veteran Status: Must be a veteran household, or a surviving spouse of a veteran (DD-214 required).

Residency: Must own and reside
in the home as your primary
residence within Livingston County.

Income: Your total household
income must be at or below 80%
of the Area Median Income (AMI)
for Livingston County.

Need: The home must require repairs that fall within the scope of safety and security.

What to Expect: Our Application Process

We are honored to partner with you to make your home safer. Because Homes of the Brave utilizes dedicated grant funds, we follow a specific step-by-step review process to ensure all program requirements are met.

Here is what you can expect as we work together:

Step 1: Application Partnership
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
Our Family Services team will walk
alongside you to gather your military
verification (DD-214), proof of
homeownership, and complete the
formal application.

Step 2: Site Visit & Estimates
To accurately understand your home's needs, a Habitat representative will conduct a brief on-site assessment. We will then help coordinate or collect two professional quotes or estimates for the required critical repairs to establish the project scope and budget.

Step 3: Monthly Board Review
The Homes of the Brave Review Board meets once a month to evaluate all completed application files. They review the assessments, urgency of repairs, and available grant funding to determine project approvals.

Step 4: Funding Allocation & Repair Kickoff
Once your application is accepted
by the board, dedicated funds are
officially allocated to your project.
Our team will handle the logistics,
funding distributions, and schedule
the contractors or volunteer crews
to complete the work at no cost to you.
